CONCEPT 

The collaboration between STiMULANT and The Echo Series was brought to the club sphere as an artistic interdisciplinary effort. With the aim of expanding the possibilities already present in club culture(s), an intervention disrupted a familiar dance-floor through an unexpected interaction between moving bodies, their garments, lights, objects and sounds. With the mediums being informed by the cultures of the dance-floors, the project seeked to foster and stimulate the audience to explore different movements, while triggering unforeseen thoughts and new ways to manifestate embodied emotions.

The performance investigated notions of duality; duality of being and existing. The ‘groundness’ of the physical reality in a complementary balance to the metaphysical realm. The paradox between both existences.. having to access the most rough environment - in its sweat and darkness - in order to get in touch with a light and peaceful state of mind. Discomfort in pursuance of comfort.

STiMULANT is an inquiry to further examine what we seek for with our dances and how it relates to the way we dress our bodies.

An act of surrender? A ritual of surrender?

We are surrounded by people who devote themselves to dance and sounds, and who build their sense of ‘self’ and communities around the manifestation of movement to sounds on dance floors. In there, the movements of the bodies are embodiments of infinite circumstances, an entanglement of histories and experiences singular to every being. A space where a collective sphere embraces the possibility for individual bursts of emotions, feelings and expressions.
